Net Worth Categories
- Cash
- Current totals for Checking, Savings, Money Market, and CD accounts
- Stocks
- The market value of any individual stocks and/or stock funds you hold. Do not include ones that are held in a retirement account.
- Bonds
- The market value of all individual bonds and/or bond funds you hold. Do not include ones that are held in a retirement account.
- Annuities
- The current value of any annuity contracts you hold.
- Retirement
- The total balance of all retirement accounts, such as the the following account types: 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Roth IRA, and SEP IRAs.
- Home
- The current value of your home. If you recently purchased or financed your home, you can use the appraisal value. Optionally, you can use a service such as Zillow to estimate this.
- Other Real Estate
- The current value any other real estate including investment property, REIT and other real estate funds.
- Cars
- The current market value of all cars, trucks, RVs. A site like Kelley Blue Book is helpful for this.
- Personal Property
- Such items as jewelry, art, furnishings, collectibles. There is debate about whether to include this in your net worth. There are no hard and fast rules here for this, but if you have something valuable that can be sold relatively easily, you may choose to include it. Enter the amount these items would sell for today.
- Other Assets
- Any other assets. Could include cash value of life insurance, loans owed to you, ownership in a business, etc.
- Home Mortgage
- The current principle on all mortgage and home equity loans for your home.
- Other Mortgage
- The current principle on all mortgage and home equity loans for other real estate.
- Student Loans
- The current principle on all student loans.
- Auto Loans
- The current principle on all auto loans.
- Credit Cards
- Total credit card debt.
- Other Debts
- Any other debt. Maybe you owe a relative money?
