Saving consistently for the last few years and always contributing to my 401K.
Worst Financial Decision:
Not saving anything outside my 401K in my 20s and early 30s. Ugh. Not contributing at least 10% of my income to my 401K in my 20s and early 30s. Waste of a decade (financially).
Current Financial Strategy:
Save, save, save! Always waver back and forth on whether I would be better off renting or buying. Buying in NYC/Brooklyn seems like madness.
How I manage my money:
Very carefully. Use Mint.com and check it every day. Download that into a spreadsheet at the end of each month. Update net worth statement every quarter. Actively focus on investments, insurance and other financial needs.
Tools I use:
NetworthIQ, of course! Mint.com, Excel, Morningstar Instant X-Ray, TurboTax, online banking, online brokerage accounts, auto-bill pay, you name it!
I need help with:
Investing. When I make investment decisions outside of ETFs/mutual funds, they usually go horribly wrong.
Favorite Financial Personalities:
Get Rich Slowly, Five Cent Nickel, My Open Wallet bloggers. Just getting into reading investment books like Bogleheads Guide to Investing, A Random Walk, etc.
