End of the year income includes a few more freelance projects, boosting the net worth further, but because of credit card debt, prevented me from reaching my end-of-year goal of $140,000 cash. So close!

My finance methods will be transitioning to a new system over the next several months, although the basic save-here-spend-there routine still comes into play. Let's see how this will work out...

Extra income kinda stalled this month as I'm busy working but the checks won't flow until the very end of the year. However, I got a moderate boost in the 401k dept so I'm not suffering too badly.

My one "toy" was a $1,000 lens for my camera, but otherwise it was petty purchases.

The car is also rapidly declining in value, not surprising for a brand that will be extinct by this time next year. Who knows? A new vehicle may be on the horizon, but I should probably worry about the house first, haha.

The freelance checks came in, and that provided a valuable boost to the cash horde, which is nice because the advance on my retirement fund kinda stalled.

It would have been even higher were it not for our annual roadtrip to the northeast US. That sapped about $1500 total, but it was worth it.

Not sure how the rest of the year will play out. I always make a little extra cash over the holidays, but unless I get some more freelance jobs, it will just make for some nice petty holiday cash.

Freelance jobs really took off for September. I basically more than doubled my income! However I won't be seeing these checks until later in October.

The family's annual roadtrip is upon us, so there will be no extra inflow for a few weeks, but we've saved quite a bit on finding discounts and good deals for the vacation, so it won't be that bad.

More side jobs... more extra cash. No complaints here! I had some car expenses (insurance, registration, badly-needed wash/detail) but it's the evil necessities. Stocks continue to climb out of their rut, making my retirement look not so bad again.

I received a new Chase business card after Advanta folded. Of course, I find new toys for the business. Maybe I shoulda kept putting it off, haha.

More freelance checks will be rolling in next month. I'm not gonna stop now.

Checks for the moonlighting came in, with a few more still on the way. Not bad for this summer. Retirement fund is holding it's own, and outside of a few impulse purchases, I kept my spending within budget. The increase in net worth will probably level off as the year progresses.

That house is on the horizon. Barely.

Still busy with freelance, but the checks won't flow until next month. Provided stocks don't drop again, I'm looking at another small acceleration in net worth for the month of July. You'll just have to wait and see what happens...

May was a fantastic month. I had an extra side job plus 2 different freelance jobs that boosted my non-salary income. Stocks also made a nice recovery, and I didn't make a single big purchase, making my net worth jump up to new levels.

I took a 2-week roadtrip to Arizona but the cost was less than $1000 since the free week stay at a resort helped out a lot. I absorbed my expenses through my extra checks.

The only bummer for now is that my 2005 Saturn L300 is quickly losing value due to the buyout of GM, although not as bad as I had feared. I'll be keeping an eye on the KBB. I'm just hoping if Saturn manages to seal a deal with a buyer, I can put my hopes on a new Saturn for late next year.

Stocks keep going up, helping to diminish the catastophic losses on my 401k from the past 6 months. Buying when they were cheap is continuing to amplify my bottom line on the retirement.

I bought one more lens for my SLR camera and then I put a moratorium on any more big purchases until July.

The uptick in stocks helped my net worth gain into positive territory this time. Of course, refraining from buying any "toys" was a big help.

I do have some big purchases coming up, but I also have upcoming freelance jobs for extra cash to offset those purchases. Hopefully the net worth line will continue to make a slow but steady ascent for the next few months.

My new 401k matching is finally kicking in. I've adjusted my contribution to 6%, which is a little less than what it was, but I'm getting the matching boost so it works out.

The value of my car is quickly declining, probably because it's a Saturn, the company with a doubtful future. Hopefully they'll pull through but I'm not counting on it.

And of course, the retirement fund is still taking hits, although I'm getting more shares for my money. I'm still not worried about it, unlike most of everybody else.

I'm probably going to jump in the stock market here pretty soon, although I'm sure most people would advise against that. But hey it's hovering at 12-year lows so I may jump in there with a few grand and see what I can do with it.

Lastly, I've opened up a new business account that will be used specifically for my freelance jobs. I'm suspending my "save up for a house" method until this account reaches $10,000.

My increase in net worth may be a little more flattened due to my flailing retirement fund, not to mention these expensive lenses for the SLR camera (and I need 3 more), but I'm keeping those purchases to one a month so I can stay within the quarterly budget, but have all of them in time for the next roadtrip in April.

Pacing yourself is the way to go.
