December was a great month. I went home for 10 days over Christmas and had a fantastic vacation in Vegas for New Year's Eve. I spent a fair amount on Christmas gifts but did not go over budget. I also received a $500 pre-tax bonus from work, which came out to $250 after taxes! I saved some of it and used it to buy some things for myself. I was able to save a lot more than usual and actually came back from Vegas with money in my pocket instead of spending it all! Let's see what happens in 2009. I also received $1K in gift exclusion money from my Dad.

I purchased more than usual in November. Two new pairs of shoes, a new pair of pants for work, my flight for New Year's Eve to Vegas and some Christmas presents. The markets were, once again, very rocky. I spent a nice, relaxing and quite Thanksgiving with my parents at a family friend's house in Southern California. I also sold my old TV on Craig's List for $25 in extra income and received a $30 grocery store gift certificate as well. Even with the economy, my net worth is still increasing. :)

October was a long month, but a good one. It was a 3 paycheck month, so one of those paychecks went into my emergency fund savings. I opened my Roth IRA at Vanguard and my first contributions went into my 401k with my company! I can't complain, as I am buying into the stock market at a VERY low time and I am in it for the long term of 20+ years.

The final portion of my security deposit for the apartment was paid this month. I managed to stay within my budget again in September. Nothing very significant occurred. The beating of the stock markets has not yet had any effect on me, as my first 401(k) contribution will be in October. I used $525 of the $10K gift from my parents to purchase myself a new 24" flatscreen TV to replace my 4-year-old 13" TV/VHS combo. I am looking forward to October, the start of the final quarter of 2008!

August was moving month. A lot of money went into the move (which lead to the decrease in net worth), but I still managed to put $250 extra into savings. I switched banks as well and now have 2 savings account, one of which is directly linked to my checking account for short-term purchases.

July was my first full month of working full-time. I received 2 full paychecks and had health insurance deducted from them, but nothing else. Mostly I focused on keeping to my preliminary budget and I did very well - coming under enough to add an extra $100 to my emergency fund! I have kept a cushion, however, since I am moving to a new apt in 9 days and there will be a fair amount of costs incurred for renting the U-haul, paying part of the new security deposit, new rent and pro-rated old rent. I am glad that I was able to increase my net worth! Here's to keeping it up!
